Our Independent (Private) High School Curriculum
Years 7 and 8
STEM: Mathematics, Science, ICT, Geography
Humanities: English, History, French, Spanish, Latin, Religious Education
Creative: Art, Design and Technology, Drama, Music
Games/Physical Education, including regular swimming lessons
PSHE (Personal, Social and Emotional Health Education)
Year 9
Your child can tailor their learning by selecting elements of their curriculum, including a range of languages, creative and expressive disciplines.
Years 10 and 11
Every pupil will study GCSE English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and either the Science Trilogy course (worth two GCSEs) or all three Sciences as separate GCSE subjects.
Building on their core timetable, your child can choose four or five further options from:

Engineering dream in sight for Abigail
Abigail has taken a step closer to her dream of becoming an engineer after achieving excellent GCSE grades at Hymers College.
She completed nine GCSEs including grade 8s in History, English Literature, English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and PE.
She will now study A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and History at Hymers’ Sixth Form, and plans to go to university.
Abigail, who joined Hymers eight years ago and played in the school’s hockey and netball teams, said: “I worked really hard and I’m so happy. I studied for six hours per day to make sure I was ready for my exams.
“I’m looking forward to focusing on the subjects I’ve chosen in the sixth form and I want to become an engineer.
“It’s a really good environment at Hymers. All of the teachers care and they want you to do well.”

Sam excited for sixth form after GCSEs success
Sam achieved 10 GCSEs, including grade 9 in English Literature and grade 8 in Design and Technology, Geography and Maths, plus an extra Level 3 qualification in Algebra.
The 16-year-old joined Hymers five years ago and also plays cricket and rugby both in and out of school.
Sam, whose parents, Graeme and Emma, also studied at Hymers, will now study A Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Economics and Design and Technology at the school’s sixth form.
He said: “I’m really happy with my results and it has been worth putting in the work over the last two years.
“I’m looking forward to focusing on the core subjects I enjoy in the sixth form.
“I love being a Hymers student and I’m really happy here. The people around you impact on how well you do and everyone is great.
“The amount of support I have received has been brilliant.”

Mahathi excited for Sixth Form after outstanding GCSEs
Mahathi is looking forward to Sixth Form at Hymers College after achieving excellent GCSE results.
She secured 10 GCSEs – nine at grade 9 and one at grade 8 – at the independent Hull school, where she will now study A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and History.
After that, Mahathi would like to study Medicine at university.
“It’s been really enjoyable at Hymers. I’ve made lots of memories and formed new friendships,” she said.
“The teachers are also really supportive for the students.
“I’m now looking forward to Sixth Form because of the smaller group sizes and even more one-to-one support.”

Nii feeling confident as he prepares for A-Levels after GCSEs success
Nii Okine achieved 10 GCSEs – including grade 9s in English Literature, Maths and Biology – at Hymers College.
The 16-year-old is now staying on Hymers’ Sixth Form to study A Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Biology and Chemistry.
During his time at Hymers he has been part of the Debating Club and the Medical Society, and has been heavily involved in sport including football and hockey.
“It’s been a really great experience at Hymers,” said Nii Okine.
“The way we’ve been able to build friendships, and how we’ve been given responsibility, has been really positive.
“I also feel like I’ve developed a lot as a person – I’ve matured and become a lot more confidence.”

Elizabeth praises teachers following GCSE success
Elizabeth beamed from ear-to-ear as she opened her GCSE results.
The 16-year-old achieved nine GCSEs, including grade 9 in English Language and grade 8 in Drama and History.
Elizabeth, who joined Hymers six years ago, will now study A Levels in Drama, History and Politics at the school’s sixth form, with her sights set on a career in International Relations.
She has also been part of the school’s senior drama productions and played cricket.
Elizabeth said: “I’m surprised by my results but I’m very happy.
“I’ve had so much support from my teachers. They always notice when you’re struggling and they care so much about you as an individual.
“I can’t wait to start my A Level courses in the sixth form.”

Riya’s GCSE success sets her on exciting path to become a doctor
Riya is looking forward to an exciting future after achieving top grades at Hymers College.
Her grade highlights included 9s in English Literature, Maths and Chemistry.
Riya joined the school eight years ago and will now go on to study A Level Biology, Chemistry and Maths at Hymers’ Sixth Form, with the hope of studying Medicine at university and becoming a doctor.
Riya, who also plays badminton and is in the Hymers College orchestra, said: “My teachers have helped me to learn the right study techniques and develop my interest in science.
“I’ve grown in confidence and they have supported me to grow as a person.
“I love being a Hymers student and I’m very happy all my hard work has paid off. I’m really grateful to all of my teachers.”

Straight 9s for Hymers student Aishwarya
Aishwarya is celebrating straight grade 9s in all of her 10 GCSEs.
She will now go on to study A Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths at Hymers’ Sixth Form.
Aishwarya, who is considering a career in medicine, joined Hymers eight years ago and has also embraced extra-curricular activities including dance, cricket and badminton.
She collected her results with her family, and said: “I’m really happy with my results and I’m grateful for the support I’ve had from my parents and teachers.
“You can go to any Hymers teacher about anything because they’re so friendly and easy to talk to. It’s easy to ask for help and they’re so supportive, tailoring lessons to suit each student.
“Hymers has given me lots of different experiences so far and equipped me with skills for the future.”

Ashwin secures 10 GCSEs at Hymers as he sets sights on cricket career
Ashwin is excited to begin his sixth form studies at the school after achieving 10 GCSEs.
The 16-year-old joined Hymers eight years ago and has his sights set on a future sporting career in cricket while remaining focused on his studies.
Ashwin, who plays cricket for Yorkshire, the North of England and Hymers, achieved all grade 8s and 7s in his 10 subjects, including grade 8 in Business, Chemistry and Biology.
He will now go on to study A Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Economics and Physics at Hymers College Sixth Form.
Ashwin said: “I’m really happy with my results. I find it hard to sit down with a book and revise but I’ve managed to balance everything, and I’ve done well.
“Even if I do well in cricket, I wanted to make sure I tried hard with my studies.
“I’m looking forward to the sixth form, so I can enjoy the subjects I’ve chosen.
“Most of my friends are staying at Hymers and it’ll be great to be with them. Hymers is a top school.”

Henry embracing opportunities at Hymers after impressive GCSEs
Henry, 16, is celebrating 10 GCSEs, including grade 9 in English Literature and Language, French, Latin and Geography.
He is now staying on at sixth form to study A Levels in English Literature and Language, History and Politics.
Henry has been actively involved sport and music during his time at the Hull school, including being in the cricket and rugby teams every year, and playing the drums in Hymers’ rock band.
“I love it here – it really helps you grow as a person,” he said.
“There’s something for everyone and it helps build your confidence, because it gives you so many opportunities to experience new things.
“There’s also a good competitive environment, and everyone pushes each other to do better. I just don’t want to leave!”

Senior School Fees
As Hymers Senior School is an independent (private) high school, there are fees to attend.
From Year 7, academically gifted children whose parents are not in a financial position to pay the full fees are able to apply for our Fee Remission (bursary scheme).
