Hymers College celebrates academic excellence with outstanding A Level results

Students at Hymers College are once again celebrating after achieving highly impressive A Level results.

Our Sixth Form students, along with their families and our teachers, are marking an exceptional year of academic success – reflecting Hymers’ continued commitment to high achievement and all-round development.

For the first time, we are also celebrating the success of our BTEC students, following the recent introduction of BTEC Sport to our curriculum.

Key highlights from this year’s results include:

  • 54% of all grades awarded were A* or A, or equivalent

  • 77% of all grades awarded were A*- B, or equivalent

  • Almost two thirds of students studying three or more A Levels achieved ABB or better

  • 100% of BTEC Sport students achieved Distinction Star or Distinction

  • 92% of all grades were A*- C, or equivalent.

Hymers students excelled across a wide range of subjects, with standout achievements including:

  • 84% of Science grades at A*- B

  • 82% of Maths grades A*- B

  • 100% of Business grades A*- B

  • 90% of Politics grades A* or A

  • 86% of Computer Science grades A*- B

Many students are now progressing to leading universities to study a wide range of courses – including Politics, International Business, Classics, Medicine and Fine Art – while others embark on alternative high-value pathways, including competitive apprenticeships at leading national and international employers.

A total of six students have secured a place at either Oxford or Cambridge, collectively known as the ‘Oxbridge’ universities.

Headmaster Justin Stanley said: “A Level and BTEC results day marks the endpoint of the Hymers journey for these students and, in many cases, their parents as well.

“It’s a celebration and a recognition of all the hard work and collective endeavours of students, staff and parents.

“It’s wonderful to see our students rewarded not only for their hard work in the classroom but also for the many ways in which they’ve contributed to the Hymers community. They’ve been exceptional role models for the younger pupils.

“We look forward to hearing all about what these tremendous individuals go on to do and staying connected to them, both in the short and longer term – once a Hymerian, always a Hymerian.

“While we will, of course, miss the Class of 2025, we know that we send them off fully prepared to meet the challenges ahead of them and make a positive contribution to their universities, places of work and wider communities.

“We know that the lessons they’ve learned – both in and out of the classroom – will last well beyond their time with us, and we know that in very many cases they’ve made friends at Hymers that will last a lifetime.”

Mr Stanley also had a special word for the first Hymers BTEC students.

“Thanks very much to our BTEC pioneers, who’ve blazed a trail for others to follow,” he said.

The latest success comes on the back of outstanding results in 2024, with Department for Education (DfE) data placing Hymers students top in Hull, East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire.
