Sixth Form Welcome

Independence, maturity & leadership. These are just three of the qualities that pupils will take away with them after their time in our Sixth Form.

In the Sixth Form pupils are able to take on new responsibilities and challenges, and enjoy greater independence with their studies and time management. They will be encouraged to exceed what is expected of them and leave with the skills to equip them for their next steps.

Sixth-Form pupils are encouraged to make the most of our extensive extra-curricular programme which includes a whole host of activities both in school and out in the locality. Supporting and giving back to the community is an important part of the ethos of Hymers College and our students have been involved in a number of projects from listening to children read in several local Primary Schools to collecting toys and games for vulnerable children.

Sixth Formers are invited to join the School Council and we select Prefects who act as ambassadors of the school and for those in the younger years to look up to.

Sixth-Form pupils also have the opportunity to participate in our buddy system, which provides individual peer guidance to those students in the years below.

Our dedicated Sixth Form Centre has its own Junior Common Room, dining facility, computer suites, study areas and socialising hubs.

There are also screens showing important notices and Sixth Form news.  Students are encouraged to use our new Learning Resource Centre, which has areas conducive to silent study and independent learning, a skill required for University life and further education.

We encourage a variety of learning methods for Sixth Form pupils, including weekly lectures from exciting external speakers ranging from singer and actor Roland Gift, to founder of the famous book selling chain Tim Waterstone.
