GCSE Results 2019
Our Year 11 pupils are celebrating after receiving an outstanding set of GCSE grades. Despite the more challenging nature of the new exams, our pupils have excelled themselves through a combination of their own hard work and the inspirational support of their teachers.
Out of a year group of 108 pupils, 62 achieved the incredible feat of at least 7 grades 9-7 (A*/A), while 57 pupils gained 9-7 in 8 or more subjects.
Results in English Language and Mathematics were particularly strong, with more than 70% of all pupils receiving grades 9-7. Beyond the core subjects, it is especially pleasing to see our pupils enjoy the broader curriculum on offer at Hymers College and perform so well in creative and practical subjects such as Music and Design Technology. Latin is another popular option at the school and this year’s results saw 89% of candidates achieve grades 9/8.
Justin Stanley, the new Headmaster, said:
“I want to congratulate all the Hymers pupils who have received GCSE results today. I am thoroughly impressed by the way that they have risen to the academic challenge of the exams, while participating fully in the rich extra-curricular life of the school and contributing so positively in the local community.
I should also like to take this opportunity to thank all the teachers who have worked so conscientiously to support the pupils, both academically and pastorally, through the challenges of GCSE.“
