4 facilities you’ll discover at Hymers College
Tradition and innovation go hand-in-hand on the Hymers College 45-acre campus.
Historic buildings, dating back to 1893, sit alongside 21st century facilities, ensuring that our pupils study in the very best surroundings and can take advantage of a wide range of superb facilities for all manner of activities.
In recent years, the school has undertaken a number of significant projects, both to create innovative new spaces and to renovate and revitalise older parts of the school. These ongoing developments are not only exciting, but stand as testament to our ambition and vision to offer the best possible environment for our pupils to thrive in.
Here are just some of the things you’ll discover on your visit:
Learning Resource Centre
Our award-winning Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is a flexible, technology-rich environment, designed to inspire and enhance the learning of our pupils.
Here, you’ll find facilities which cater for a variety of learning styles. These include: individual pods for group and individual work, and a dedicated silent floor which enables sixth formers to get a taste of university-style learning. Students also have access to a wide range of books and resources, providing opportunities to read both for pleasure and alongside the curriculum.
Within the LRC is also an enthusiastic team of support staff - consisting of Miss Tenniswood, Mrs Mason and Mrs Grantham - alongside the careers team of Mrs Needle and Mr Meadway; who are on-hand to assist pupils throughout the day.
The Stephen Martin Music School
Our Stephen Martin Music School gives students access to unique, state-of-the-art facilities which are unrivalled in the north of England. Whether accommodating a full orchestra or a small choral rehearsal, the versatility of this space means we can support an array of talented musicians.
In addition to our percussion suite, band room, music technology and teaching classrooms, we have a purpose-built recording studio which is linked with our chamber concert room; allowing students to take high quality recordings of their work.

We have invested heavily in sports and fitness facilities over the years to cater for a wide range of talents and abilities.
We are fortunate in having the benefit of a swimming pool, which is well utilised, allowing students to learn to swim at an early age. Our fitness suite hosts an excellent range of cardiovascular, resistance and free weights equipment that pupils can enjoy in their own time; this often helps enhance the performance of those involved in both team or individual sport.
The recent installation of a floodlights ensure our pupils and have a place to train, compete and take part in a variety of sports all year round.
