Leading Campaigner Speaks to the Sixth Form
Jasvinder Sanghera spoke to the Sixth Form this morning about the issue of forced marriages and her astonishing career. She is recognised as bringing the issue of forced marriage into the public domain and Prime Minister David Cameron stated that her work ‘turned my head on the issue of forced marriage’.
Jasvinder described how she formed the charity, Karma Nirvana, which supports both men and women affected by honour based abuse and forced marriages.
She spoke of her own personal experiences and read from her bestselling book “Shame”.
A number of students spoke of how they had been moved by Jasvinder’s lecture and sought her out afterwards to speak to her. The excellent vote of thanks on behalf of the Sixth Form was given by Reshma Razack.
