Speech Day 2018
Our annual Speech Day took place last night in celebration of both individual and collective achievements at Hymers College throughout the 2017/18 academic year.
The evening began with the Headmaster, Mr David Elstone, congratulating all the students on their achievements whether that be in public examinations or in their contribution to school life. He also spoke about the importance of upholding the school’s traditional values and how vital it is that schools work alongside parents in providing a moral compass for young people.
Mr Elstone commented:
“A Hymers education is one which promotes wholeness; an education which is rigorous and challenging; which focuses on stretch rather than stress and which is outward looking, because we believe that the constant focus on self as the solution for our ills is damaging; an education that encourages boys and girls to work alongside each other with equal respect, equal opportunity and equal ambition; an education which allows children to grow into independent, thinking adults equipped with the qualities and the grades they need to make choices.”
We had the privilege of being joined by two-time Paralympic archery champion, Danielle Brown MBE. As our guest speaker, Danielle’s presentation highlighted the importance of establishing your own goals and understanding what success looks like to different individuals.
Congratulations to all students who received an award last night; an extended thank you goes to all that joined us for our evening of celebration.
