Junior School Curriculum
The curriculum is designed to provide a thorough grounding in the basic skills which are required throughout education, along with a broad range of subjects which interest and challenge.
As part of the Junior School curriculum, our pupils will study English, Mathematics, Science, Music, Design and Technology, ICT, History, Geography, Art, Religious Education, Personal, Social and Health Education, Physical Education, Games, Drama and Swimming. Pupils in Year 5 and 6 take an introductory course in Modern Languages.
Junior School students benefit from access to iPads and an IT suite. All students are taught computing skills. By the time students leave the Junior School they are all confident users of IT and these skills will become invaluable as they progress into the Senior School and beyond.
Music plays a large role in our students' lives, each pupil has the opportunity to sing in their year group choir and even take up a musical instrument with tuition for a specialist music teacher.
Sport plays an enormous role in the Junior School, students of Year 4-6 are encouraged to be active and regularly visit our main sports facilities for indoor and outdoor PE lessons. Our comprehensive programme of competitive fixtures against other schools in the region ensures that every child represents Hymers College Junior School in sport, with the opportunity to compete at a local and national level.
All Junior School Pupils are assigned to one of four houses. The houses compete in various activities which encourages teamwork and co-operation across the different year groups.
