Our Values and Beliefs

  • We are a school with a national reputation which is committed to the local area. We seek to maintain the ideals of our founder, John Hymers, to provide education "for the training of intelligence in whatever social rank of life it may be found among the vast and varied population of the town and port of Hull" and the local surrounding environs.
  • We believe school is about learning, both in and outside of the classroom. We seek to encourage that pupils learn how to learn, progress academically and develop into adults who will benefit society;
  • We recognise that people have different abilities, interests and characters;
  • We are passionate about our work, our teaching and the pupils’ learning;
  • We believe that academic potential is the only legitimate means of differentiating between candidates when offering places;
  • We believe that, for pupils to enjoy their time at school, they must work and play in a disciplined and caring environment;
  • We believe in the synergy between teaching and professional development. We are committed to providing high quality professional development that informs our teaching;
  • We undertake to provide first-rate teaching and support of learning to release potential in all of our pupils;
  • We believe that we improve and grow stronger by listening and learning from others.
