A bronze for badminton!

Tuesday, 16 May, 2017

Hymers College U16’s Badminton Team, consisting of Jessica Robinson, Satarra Thaker, Marina Sennaraj and Ananya Rajesh represented the school at the National Schools Badminton Championships.

The girls were off to a promising start, winning their first match 4-1 against Thomas Alleynes High School. Three of the next four matches were won, with brilliant performances in both the singles and doubles by each individual player; landing the team in the playoffs and guaranteeing them a medal.

Accompanied by a series of nail bitingly close games, the final match was a difficult one for the team, resulting in a 5-0 loss to Westgate School. The girls spirits were not dampened as they were placed an incredible 3rd in the country out of over 6000 schools.

“Our aim was to beat our 2015 placing of 7th place. We are so pleased that we did not just achieve our goal, but we absolutely smashed it, coming away with bronze medals.” Commented Hymers College U16 Badminton Captain, Jessica Robinson.
