National Citizen Service (NCS)
NCS is a way for 15 to 17 year olds living in England to make extraordinary friendships, learn the skills they don’t teach you in class and create unforgettable memories. So far, 300,000 young people have had the experience of a lifetime taking part and graduating from the NCS programme.
How is it beneficial? NCS breaks down barriers for young people. It helps them interact with a wider community, builds their confidence and helps young people face their fears. It gives them something to be proud of and an opportunity they shouldn’t miss out on!
How much does it cost? NCS is a government funded scheme, so thanks to this, the most you will ever pay for the NCS experience is £50. Keep an eye out for any promotions on NCSELFTRUST.CO.UK or Twitter @HymersCommunity
NCS is split into 4 phases:
Phase 1Challenge & Adventure
Away Residential. Young people go away on a 4 night residential and part-take in adrenaline filled activities such as rock climbing, caving, gorge walking. They will face various personal challenges & create new friendships.
Phase 2Independent living & skills
Home Residential. In their groups, young people will stay in a local uni-like accommodation for 4 nights, learning new life & work skills, and part-taking in many interactive workshops, challenges & team-building activities.
Phase 3Social action within your community
This phase is split into 2 weeks. The first week for Social Action Planning, and the second for Social Action Delivery. Young people will complete 60 hours across the 2 weeks, creating and delivering a project, to support their local community.
Phase 4To celebrate their achievements
Graduation. This is where young people reunite, for an evening of celebration, to celebrate their individual, and group, achievements. It is a time to showcase their NCS journey, and for how the young people can continue their NCS experience.
