Attended Hymers College:
What makes this nominee inspiring?
Having not achieved the grades for medical school, Samir spent a year after Sixth Form resitting his exams and after a year achieved a place at Liverpool. Since then, he has excelled in the medical profession and is now a leading figure in general surgery nationally. Samir also co-founded Cricket Beyond Boundaries, which provides underprivileged young Indian children the opportunity to spend time in UK to develop as cricketers and, more importantly, to widen their aspirations for life. It should also be noted that he has also been an outstanding cricketer, representing English Universities and he is now an MCC member. He has achieved all of this without allowing a disability to stand in his way - indeed, it was this condition affecting his leg that led him towards a career in medicine and that adds to his determination.
