Michael has been a chief constable in Durham for seven years and will be retiring later this year. Michael is renowned in Durham for his no-nonsense style and radical approach to policing, as well as reforming drugs policy and for attempts to crack down on organised crime gangs. His work has enabled him to appear on breakfast television and radio interviews. Alongside his successful career with Durham police, Michael also has a popular column in The Northern Echo where he regularly writes about his career in the police force and local news in the Durham area and formerly controller of BBC local radio.
