Hymers College in Hull has had another excellent year in terms of examination results.
The overall pass rate for A Levels was 100% with 26.7% at the new Grade A*, 56% at Grade A and A*, 80.2% at Grades A-B, and 95.9% at Grades A-C. **
Stephanie Willis was the school’s top achiever, with six A Levels at Grade A*. Two pupils achieved five A Levels at Grade A* - Amit Chawla and Yewen Qin, and eight pupils achieved four A Levels at Grade A* – Jessica Goldring, Graham Holden, David Hoyes, Tom Kitching, Tim May, George Pickering, Cathryn Quick, and Lara Sirimanne.
Five pupils have been accepted at Oxbridge:
Oxford – William Bennett who will be studying Physics and also has a Choral Scholarship, and Lara Sirimanne who will be studying Law.
Cambridge – Christopher Blucke will be studying Geography, Jessica Goldring will be studying Law, and Stephanie Willis, Engineering.
The overall pass rate for GCSEs was 98.2% (A*-C) with 34.3% at Grade A*, (which is a school record), 70.4% at Grade A and A*, 90.4% at Grades A-B or better. Seventy three pupils from a year group of 111 gained a minimum of 7 A grades.
Five pupils achieved 10 A*s – Emily Bentley, James Matthews, Vieri Thonet, Laura Waldren and Mahir Yousuff – and four pupils achieved 9 A *s – Andrew Chia, Matthew Fitzpatrick, and Laura Morgan. [one pupil is yet to collect their results]
Laura Waldren, one of the school’s top achievers did extremely well considering she has been battling anorexia for the last 3 years. Laura commented, “I wasn’t expecting to achieve 10 A*s as I missed all of Year 10 at school because I was in hospital. I am thrilled. I feel if I can do this I can do anything, including getting better.”
David Elstone, Headmaster, said, “I am very proud that the pupils have scored over 70% A*s and A’s for the second year running. The results are a consequence of excellent teaching and very hard working pupils. When put alongside our outstanding A Level results I am delighted to say that 2010 has been one of our best years yet.”
