26/02/2010 - Leadership Award for Life

Rebecca Sedman, Daniel Vickers and Edward Finn spoke about the Leadership Award for Life at this morning’s school assembly. The three Year 10 pupils have been taking part in an exciting new scheme which has involved the school partnering with David Lister School in East Hull. In October the pupils took part in an outward bounds course in Windermere with youngsters from David Lister and on their return to Hull have been tasked with completing a local community project that will benefit young people in Hull.
Their chosen project is to construct a nature trail in the grounds of The Frederick Holmes Special School. To do this the pupils have to raise money and sponsorship and have to complete their project over the Easter holidays.
The youngsters have successfully gained the support of a number of local businesses who have donated prizes for a raffle which will be held throughout the school.
To conclude the assembly, the Headmaster said, “I hope that the rest of the school can support this special project. It is very rare for such community projects to be undertaken by pupils in Year 10. It is also very hands-on and even if members of the school cannot support financially they might consider giving of their time to help construct the actual nature trail.”
