Hymers’ College Association

Hymers College AssociationThe Hymers College Association (HCA) is an association of parents of pupils at the school. The main objective of its elected committee is to raise funds for regular replacement of the school minibuses and to purchase other equipment to benefit the school. Recent examples include a new audio visual system for the Main Hall, a video camera, and a computerised library system for the new Junior School.

Annual events include a Spring Ball, a Garden Party and termly second hand uniform sales.

Committee members enjoy the opportunity of taking part in extra school activities. Meetings are conducted in a relaxed manner and new friendships are easily made among those willing to become involved in what is recognised as a valuable part of the school family. We welcome new members who can contact us through the school.

Friends of Hymers Music Society (FoHMS)

FoHMSFounded in 1968, we are a group of parents, friends and members of staff who raise money to support the wide variety of music at Hymers.

Our primary function is to purchase musical instruments for loan to individual pupils wishing to take lessons.

This allows children to tackle more unusual instruments, leading to a wide variety of instruments within the orchestra so enhancing the experience of both players and audiences.

Also, pupils may require a instruments of increasing size and quality as they progress up the school. Larger instruments, such as a piano, have also been purchased.

We support and sponsor activities, from rock music to classical, which the various music groups undertake. This has included workshops, concerts, trips and competitions.

Fund raising events including our annual Golf Day in July, at Cottingham Country Park, the Music and Mulled Wine evening at Christmas, the sale of refreshments at School concerts, together with donations from parents and friends.

Can you help? Our AGM is in April and we are always delighted to welcome new members to the committee. We would love to hear from anyone who is unable to join the committee but would be happy to help with coffee at concerts or perhaps make a pudding for an event. We would also be pleased to hear from golfers or anyone able to sponsor a hole or a prize for the Golf Day.
Please contact Roz Lightowler through the school.

Old Hymerians’ Association

The Old Hymerians’ Association is the body that brings together former pupils of Hymers College. It serves to foster the spirit of fellowship amongst all Old Hymerians, to quicken the interest of every member in the welfare and advancement of Hymers College, and to render support and assistance to the Governors, the Headmaster and to staff and pupils of the school.

Active committees run the Association. They organise regular meetings and events, the largest being an annual dinner held in the Main Hall of the school every December.

The Association produces a bi-annual magazine, The Old Hymerian, with articles written by Old Hymerians, which is sent to all members.

Business Partnership

The Business Partnership was created in the 1980s in order to inform students of the business world and to demonstrate career opportunities in all areas of business.
Relationships have been established with many business enterprises in Hull and the East Riding. Opportunities are provided for students to investigate and experience many aspects of business life.

In the Sixth Form a series of business-based lectures provides training in areas such as leadership and teamwork. Year 12 students are involved in Young Enterprise, which gives them an insight into the world of business.

Many local businesses take part in the annual Careers Convention and are willing to give advice at other times to students about careers in industry and commerce.

Any parent willing to become an advisor to the Young Enterprise companies, or wishing to participate in the Business Partnership, would be warmly welcomed.
