PE

PE is taught to all students in Years 7 – 11 utilising the wide range of excellent facilities at the school. The curriculum is very broad, encapsulating the six main areas of the National Curriculum.

Sports covered include basketball, gymnastics, orienteering, dance, tennis, badminton, swimming, football, health related fitness, volleyball, athletics, rounders and softball.
Students are encouraged to develop their individual skills, but also work in groups to develop problem solving and cooperation. Where relevant, students will work in a competitive environment to overcome challenges, with an emphasis on enjoyment through sport.

In Years 10 and 11, the subject is taught to GCSE Level. We use the Edexcel examination board, which places a strong emphasis on practical performance. Our students are therefore able to utilise the strength of our games programme towards examination success. There is also a theory paper that tests the student’s knowledge beyond the games field
The subject is also taught at Advanced Level, again using the Edexcel  board where student knowledge is tested in a multi disciplined approach to the study of sport.
