Drama

Drama has always been a popular subject at Hymers with first class productions being shown throughout the course of the year.

The subject of Drama allows pupils to develop their creative side and helps build confidence. The Judi Dench Theature which seats 200, provides excellent opportunities for actors, actresses and stage and lighting crews to develop their talents. The stage area is as large as the auditorium so that as well as being a fine theatre/performance space in its own right, the theatre’s versatility offers an adaptable teaching area.

Drama is currently taught to all pupils in Years 7 and 8 and is a GCSE option for those in Years 10 and 11, with AS Drama established as an option for Sixth Form students. The subject is also popular as an extra-curricular activity.

The Music, Art, Design & Technology, Electronics and Business Studies Departments regularly contribute to the productions.

Visits to professional productions both in the area and further afield are organised on a regular basis, often in conjunction with the English Department.

Recent productions have included Les Miserables and Grease.
