Exam Results 2011

Hymers College has had another excellent year in terms of examination results.

The overall pass rate (A*- E) for A Levels in 2011 is 100% with 12% at Grade A*, 41% at Grade A and A*, 71.3% at Grades A*- B, and 89% at Grades A*- C. #

The school’s top achiever is Apurva Chitnis with 5 A*s in Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Electronics with an A in General Studies. Apurva is going on to read Engineering at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He was also one of the school's high achievers who gained 10 A*s in his GCSE's in 2009.

Antony Scott achieved four A Levels at Grade A* in Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths, and Physics, with an A in General Studies. Antony is going on to read Natural Sciences at Cambridge University where he has also achieved a choral scholarship.

Antony is closely followed by Sam Nicholls who achieved 4 A*s in Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths, and Physics. Sam came top in the UK in the Physics Olympiad competition at GCSE level in 2009 and recently went on to represent Great Britain at the 42nd International Physics Olympiad in Bangkok in July, being one of the top 5 students in the UK. Sam is going on to read Mechanical Engineering at Durham University.

Several pupils achieved 3 A*s and an A – Adrian Thornton, Simon Hammersley, Matthew Okenyi, Michael Pearson, James Roberts and Alex Rogers.

In addition, six pupils achieved 2A*s and 2 A’s – Alison Tang, Matthew Harrison, Jake Humphrey, Sam Morris, Domhnall Talbot, Dylan Golach and Chibuzor Umerah.

If General Studies is taken into account, then an additional 7 pupils achieved 4 A’s or better – Amy Trynka, Billy Gilbert, Chib Umerah, Richard Watson, Adrian Thornton, Tom Goodyear and Jack Falkingham. Ten achieved 3 A’s or better – Kyle Daniel, Jobie Warner, Curtis Noble, Sanchit Kapoor, Edward Cheong, Katherine Dickinson, Isra Rehman, Todd Rayner, and Aseem Mishra.

Five pupils have been accepted at Oxford and Cambridge Universities:
Oxford – Domhnall Talbot, Chemistry; Sam Morris, Bio-chemistry.
Cambridge – Apurva Chitnis, Engineering; James Roberts, Geography; Antony Scott, Natural Sciences.

In the GCSE results, several pupils at Hymers achieved a full set of A*s!

Jenny Morris, Siobhan Sweeney, Hannah Roberts, Claudia Habergham and Jyotsna Fernandes, all achieved 11 A* s and Elizabeth de Braal, Anna Reid and Sura Hassan achieved 10 A*s!

Other top performers include Katherine Avery, and Patrick Gittings with 10 A*s and an A.

The overall pass rate is 98.1% at grades A* - C with 35.4% at Grade A* (a school record), 67.2% at Grade A and A*, and 90.2% at Grades A* - B.

Out of a year group of 107 pupils, 66 gained a minimum of 7 A grades with an incredible 24 pupils achieving 10 A grades or better.
