SUBJECTS » Art & Design
Art and Design is taught within the Design Centre.
Art and Design is taught in Years 7, 8 and 9. The art projects encourage the use of varied materials and provide the opportunity for students to develop technical skills and use their imagination.
Years 10 and 11 are taught according to the AQA GCSE specification and the course is Fine Art based. The emphasis is on drawing, painting and sculpture and all projects are supported by research into relevant artists’ work, for which there is wide range of books and slides.
Years 12 and 13 are taught according to the AQA AS and A2 specification. Once again the course is Fine Art based. The students have the opportunity to work in a variety of materials and these include photography, printmaking and computer-aided graphics. The exploration of sculpture is particularly encouraged and there is a ceramic kiln within the department.
There are trips to exhibitions on a regular basis. The department also organises an Arts Festival for the Year 9 students in July. Regular activities include stained glass, candle making, tee shirt printing, sculpture and mask making.
An Art Club is available during two lunch times each week for students who wish to pursue their art interests further.
